CHURCH SCHOOLS ADMISSION PROCESS

Many thanks for your interest in St Michael’s Church and in applying for a place for your child at one of our Church Secondary Schools. It’s great to have you with us.

The Church of England and joint CofE/Roman Catholic Secondary Schools are among the best in the city. It is good that you are thinking of applying for a place at one of these schools for your child. We wish you well in your application, and we will do everything to support you within the guidelines provided by the schools.

Church Schools operate a points-based application system, considering factors including catchment area and church affiliation. For some schools, an entrance exam can also be taken.

Unfortunately, the school’s admission process does not take into account parental involvement in church life, nor attendance at church-base youth organisations (like Boys Brigade or GFS), as these are not church services.

For applications by Church attendance, the criteria are set by the schools and not by individual churches or the Diocese of Liverpool. As a church we are required to apply these honestly and fairly, as follows:

Sunday Worship Attendance

Church schools ask us to assess Sunday Church attendance (OVER THREE CALENDAR YEARS) as either: weekly; three-weekly (on some forms), fortnightly; occasionally. This equates to the following:

Monthly: 12 individual Sunday's attendance (22%) minimum

Twice monthly: 23 individual Sunday's attendance (44%) minimum

Thrice monthly: 36 individual Sunday's attendance (68%) minimum

Weekly: 45 individual Sunday's (minimum) attendance (85%) minimum

At St Michael’s Children are invited to attend Children’s Church in the Church Hall or to sit with their parents, other than on All Age Sunday’s, when we are all in together.

For safeguarding purposes all children are to be accompanied by a parent or guardian (who is to be present at the service), and (from September 2021) will be registered at Church at the start of the service, before being escorted to the Church Hall by a Children’s Church leader after the first hymn.

PLEASE NOTE: A SEPARATE REGISTER IS TAKEN FOR CHILDREN WHO DO NOT ATTEND CHILDREN'S CHURCH. PARENTS/GUARDIANS, CAN YOU YOU PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU LET THE CHURCH WARDEN'S (Karen White, and when she's away, Rob Johnson or Dave Patmore - Asst Warden) KNOW THAT YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE IN ATTENDANCE WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT CHURCH. THANK YOU

When & how Application Forms are completed

Application forms are normally posted on Church School websites in the early autumn and are to be completed & submitted by parents by the end of October.

Arrangements are made for hard copy of the church admission section to be handed to Karen White (Church Warden) in person. These will be completed by Karen & Keith (Vicar) and handed back within a week. The St Hilda's School form is completed online and sent direct to the school by Keith.

Extenuating Circumstances

Regarding extenuating family circumstances, making schools aware of these is the responsibility of parents/guardians.

Towards the time of applying for a church school place for your child, you will need to make arrangements to pass your application forms to Karen White (Church Warden) for completion. Please contact:
