FUNERALS

Please be assured of our deepest sympathy and prayers in your loss.

A funeral is used to mark the end of a person's life here on earth. Family and friends come together to express grief, give thanks for the life lived and commend the person into God's keeping. These can be a small, quiet ceremony or a large occasion in a packed church or crematorium chapel.  Every person matters to God.

Church of England parish churches, like St Michael's, exist to serve the whole community, it doesn't matter whether the person or their family have any existing church connection. Indeed most of the services we conduct are not for 'churchgoers'. We also respect the fact that every funeral includes people from different world faiths and with personal beliefs or none at all.  It is a privilege to offer a Christian service to every human being who would find it helpful.

We will support you in a crematorium service or burial, which is often preceded by a church service at St Michael's (or at our sister parish, Christ Church).

Please note: unfortunately the graveyard at St Michael's closed over a 100 years ago, so we have no provision for burials or the scattering of cremated remains.  Funeral Directors can advise on other local options
